Bb Trumpet

Bb Trumpet

Bb trumpet is almost always the first trumpet used by trumpet players in the US. This trumpet is called a "B flat" because it is tuned to the key of Bb, meaning that the first note in its harmonic series is a concert pitch Bb.

C Trumpet

The C trumpet is most common in American orchestral playing, where it is used alongside the B trumpet. Its slightly smaller size gives it a brighter, more lively sound.

D Trumpet

The D trumpet was introduced to the music world. Trumpeters saw that it allowed them to play works by Bach and Handel with more consistency. Music like Handel's Messiah was made easier to play and trumpet players would not have to work as hard to hit all the high notes.

Eb Trumpet

The first slide trumpets emerged during the Renaissance, predating the modern trombone, and are the first attempts to increase chromaticism on the instrument. Slide trumpets were the first trumpets allowed in the Christian church.
